So they had two Madonna biographies at the library. I took out both, to be thorough.

Madonna: An Intimate Biography tried to make itself seem all classy and legit, but was actually pretty undetailed, full of quotes I recognized from old magazine interviews and tv things. And most of the author's actual interviews with "witnesses" and "friends" were really old- his own interviews with Madonna herself were from, like, 1983. Also there were a bunch of seemingly implausible "actual quotes", as overheard by these aforementioned witnesses. Ok, true or not, how can anyone remember offhand the exact words from a conversation that took place years, or even months ago? Can we say LIBERTIES?? He made Gywneth Paltow out to be this innocent Goldilocks figure- he had her spending New Year's 2000 crying over her "sweet little Benny". And most of her quotes start with the word why- "Why, what a beautiful baby!"

Basically it was a plodding, sped-up run-though of M.'s life, at once calling her a cunt and a genius. It seems like the author got bored halfway though and spent most of the book going, blah.. this happened.. blah... then this happened.. she was bitchy, 'cause of her mom... etc... but now she's "mature".

I'm looking forward to the other book. It seems much trashier.
